First Day at Preschool

It is our wish that the first day of Preschool will be happy for your child. We will be working hard to make sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible. We’ll have lots of smiles and lots of time. Our routine will be simple and consistent until children feel confident.

Here are a few hints to assist your child into making the transition to our preschool setting:

  • Be positive. Talk about new things in a happy way.

  • Familiarise children with staff’s names.

  • Always tell your child when you are leaving and that you will be back at the end of Preschool when all the other parents return. Be  punctual as your pre-schooler will have lots to tell you.

  • Once leaving, go as quickly as possible. In most cases children settle down after the initial departure from Mum or Dad.

  • Don’t tell your pre-schooler if you are taking your toddler to the park, all those great places you used to go together. That way they don’t think they’ve missed out on anything. (This often causes a sudden case of ‘I don’t want to go to preschool today’!)

  • If you feel a little sad, wait until you’re around the corner until you show your feelings. If your pre-schooler senses something wrong, he will think, "Gee if mum thinks it’s that bad, it must be terrible".

WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL NEED

  • Morning Tea (fruit to share and a healthy snack)

  • A healthy lunch suitably wrapped. (Full day Session only)

  • A large drink bottle. Water preferably.  (No soft drink please and cordials are not recommended)

  • Water and cups are always available upon request. Staff will refill drink bottles if needed.

  • Please remind your child what he/she is to eat for morning tea and what to have for lunch. We encourage all children to eat their most healthy foods first.

  • Pre-schoolers have been known to eat the lot at morning tea!

  • One set of spare clothes to be left in their Preschool school bag. To instil good habits early, our rule is that children can only play outside if they have a hat.

  • NO HAT NO PLAY OUTSIDE OF THE SHADE! While we ask you pack a hat, we do have a number of spare hats your child can borrow.

  • Please remember to label all belongings with your child’s name!

  • Children will need a set of cot sized and one drawstring bag for storage. Some children feel more comfortable with a small pillow too. Please ensure that it will fit into the drawstring bag. Please clearly name each item. These will be sent home at the end of each term to be washed.

  •  Please make sure your child’s school bag is BIG enough to fit all their requirements in. Don’t forget they will also be bringing home many creations too!

  • A library Bag (preferably water proof to protect our books from spills)

PLEASE REMEMBER TO LABEL EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILDS NAME!!!

ON ARRIVAL

It is regulation that you come to the door when bringing or collecting your child (unless he/she travels by bus). You must sign your child in and out on the sign in/out document in the foyer. Please bring your child into the playroom and make sure a staff member acknowledges your arrival as you participate in the greeting.

Guide your child during unpacking their school bag. Remembering to encourage independence.

– Fruit in basket
– Lunch box and drink in fridge (morning tea in bowl on Friday mornings)
– Hand towel in bathroom
– Change library book
– Notes or messages to staff/fees box
– Bag on hook under locker
– Settle your child into an activity
– Say goodbye.

COLLECTING YOUR CHILD

We usually farewell children from the mat.

We respectfully ask families to wait at the bottom of the ramp / gate and at the end of our session.  Educators will assist children out to families for departure. If you do need to enter the playroom, please respect the children and staff by entering as quietly as possible if an activity is in progress. When your child is dismissed you should encourage your child to collect their own bags (they will already be packed with child’s belongings and creative work).

If entering our playroom;
Please shut the playroom door and gate when entering and leaving the Preschool. Watch that other children do not go through the gate. Hold your child’s hand and practice road safety procedures as you depart the building and make your way to the car.

CAR PARK CLOSED TO FAMILIES - A safety audit was conducted and the car park has been deemed unsafe with families and children congregating at the ramp. Cars are safer to park across the road on the vacant block.
Staff are not able to release a child without written permission from Parents/Guardians. Please list all persons that you nominate as authorised nominees to collect your child in their enrolment form.
