Our Sessions and What to Expect

Term Dates and Holidays
Gundagai Preschool Kindergarten follows the NSW Department of Education school terms. We are closed during school holidays and all public holidays. Pupil-free days are set each year and communicated to families in advance. We have cleanup days and professional development days at the end of each year. 

 

Full-Day Programs (Monday – Thursday)
Our full-day sessions follow standard school hours.

• Session 1: Monday & Wednesday

• Session 2: Tuesday & Thursday

 

Half-Day Program (Friday Morning)
The Friday morning program runs from 9:00am – 12:00pm and is designed to help children transition from home life into the preschool environment. Children can start in this program once they turn 3, and mid-year enrolments are welcome.

Important: Children enrolled in the Friday half-day program remain in this session for the whole school year and cannot swap to the full-day sessions.

School Bus Service

Families may contact local school bus services to see if their child can use the bus. Please note that this is a courtesy offered by the bus companies and is not a guaranteed right. All arrangements must be made directly with the bus service, as it is independent from the preschool.

 

What You’ll See at Preschool
At preschool, children are actively learning and developing in many ways:

• Building new knowledge and skills

• Improving communication and social skills through play and interaction

• Developing relationships with peers and adults outside the home

• Practicing physical skills: fine motor skills through hands-on activities and gross motor skills through outdoor play

• Developing problem-solving, creative thinking, and independence

• Growing confidence, responsibility, and self-worth

• Preparing for the transition to school and life beyond preschool

During a visit, you’ll see:

• Lots of talking, discussing, thinking, and doing

• Children engaging in pretend and dramatic play, reading, play-writing, and counting

• Music, games, and group activities

• Staff observing, supporting, and guiding learning when needed​
